Horse Riding in Italy - Etruscan Trail Ride

Horse Riding in Tuscany - Italy

Montaione is a wonderful part of Tuscany, known for its history, charming small villages, fortressed castles, natural sulphuric pools, and regional foods. The particular beauty of its picturesque landscape of Tufo cliffs, abandoned convents, cultivated fields, and its wild and mysterious forests make the area an unforgettable and little-known destination for travellers.
Discover a territory whose origins are lost in the mists of time. In Tuscany, particularly in Valdelsa - ride point to point to three fortressed villages rich in history and charm, filled with ancient monasteries and churches, castles and medieval buildings that are just waiting to unfold before your eyes.
We invite you on a unique horse riding holiday, exploring some of the most spectacular countryside and discovering Etruscan and Roman settlements and ruins, and staying in beautiful authentic guesthouses along the way.

Climate
During the summer period, in particular between the end of June and the start of September, the temperature can reach levels of over 40°C with a high moisture content, and even during the night temperatures rarely drop below 30/33°C.
The best months to go to Tuscany are May and June, since the long days and the fairly moderate temperatures (generally between 25 and 30 degrees). Also the second half of September and the end of October,as the climate is mild and usually in October the temperatures do not fall below 20/25 degrees.

Riding
You will be riding over rolling hills, cultivated fields, through vineyards and along soft forest tracks. You should expect to be in the saddle for approximately 5 – 7 hours per day.

Hosts
Jess and Paulo have years of international experience in the equine industry leading and guiding trails. They are both friendly and will make you feel most welcome. They have recently moved to Montaione after many years of leading trails at their estate in Monte Giove National Park.

Horses
Well trained horses for trail riding with a selection from Slovenia, Argentina and Tuscany, and breeds of Anglo Arabs and Lipizzaners.

Tack
Australian stock, endurance and western saddles are utilized for comfort and ease. These saddles are very relaxing, and riding in them is very easy, comfortable and secure. A stock saddle on a trusty horse offers to a rider, even with little experience, the chance to enjoy trail riding on varied terrain. These saddles, used by stockmen and jackaroos in the outback of Australia, and cowboys in the US are especially appropriate for long excursions.
