Classical Dressage in Portugal

Experience Portugal at a top equestrian centre in the heart of Southern Alentejo. You can enjoy spending time in the countryside, living the local life whilst experiencing the Portuguese style of riding. At this centre we offer traditional equitation, classical dressage and carriage driving programmes. Below is an example of one of the programmes. We are able to put together individual packages with different combinations of dressage, lunge lessons, rides and carriage drives and for different lengths of stay. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
This is an ideal destination for couples as there are plenty of activities to occupy a non riders. The centre/farm is set in peaceful surroundings with olive groves and cork trees. It has an indoor and outdoor arena and guests are encouraged to bring video cameras to film their lessons and then have a review afterwards.There are cattle and black pigs on the farm. Most of the food is locally produced and prepared and local wine is served with meals. Bicycles are available to explore the area.

Prices are quoted in Euros however, payments to us can of course be made in pounds sterling if you wish and we can give you a sterling rate at the time of booking.
Other activities you can also enjoy on your stay include; a visit to the mare’s herd, canoeing, fishing and hunting. There are also places of cultural interest such as Chapel of Nossa Senhara and the ruins of Islamic castle and Aljustrel’s Urban museum along with many more sites. There will be a swimming pool and tennis court available for 2009.

Climate
The Alentejo has hot, dry summers and cool winters
Riding
Instructional classical dressage, riding out around the farm, cattle driving and carriage driving.
Hosts
The instructor during your stay will be Nuno Baptista who is a working equine judge and has much experience in
breeding Lusitano horses. Nuno is a highly respected national and international rider and instructor and competes at Prix St George level. He speaks fluent English and is remarkably patient. His lessons are all done on an individual basis and are tailored for guests to get as much out of their experience as possible and to benefit from his knowledge and expertise.

The staff at the centre are all friendly and speak some English and will make your stay as comfortable as possible. All meals are produced on site using local produce including the home bred black pork.
Horses
Lusitano – a pure breed from Portugal - average 15-16 hh. Exceptional temperament and very athletic making them useful for a wide range of activities. Most of the riding horses at the centre are well trained stallions.
