TRIP INFORMATION


Climate

May to October is the dry season, however showers are likely so we recommend you take a waterproof. March – October has an average annual temperature that fluctuates between 11°C and 13°C. During the sunny days the temperature goes up to 20°C but during night time the weather can turn quite cold so warm clothes are advisable.

Riding
The riding will be across a variety of terrain and high altitude so riders should be of an intermediate – advanced level. The pace will vary each day according to the type of terrain and will range from walk – canter.

Horses
They are a mixture of Quarter horses, Arabs and Thoroughbreds. They are selected especially for the trip and have been trained to deal with rugged terrain and high altitude. Back up horses are supplied on every trip.

Tack
There are two types of saddles:-
Uruguayan Endurance Saddles – equivalent to English leather
American Endurance saddles – equivalent to Western saddles

DESCRIPTION OF THE RIDE
Day 1 – Transfer to Coronilla Ranch viewing sights along the way. In the afternoon guests enjoy a 3 - 4 hour ride to Soraypampa.
Day 2 – Ride to Humantay Lake with the option to go swimming. Lunch back at the lodge. Free afternoon to relax or go riding.
Day 3 – We continue the ride towards Machu Picchu reaching the highest part of the ride (14,800ft) incorporating stunning views of snow capped peaks. Overnight at Wayra Lodge.
Day 4 – Continue downhill descending into cloud forest. Afternoon free to relax or walk in the surrounding area.
Day 5 – The ride continues through Santa Teresa river valley encompassing banana and passion fruit orchards to Llactapata Inca Trail where we say goodbye to our horses.
Day 6 - Transfer by train to Auguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town). Overnight hotel.
Day 7 – An early start to see the sunrise at Machu Picchu, enjoy a guided tour of the City. Transfer back to Cusco to your hotel.
